ENGIE has commenced commercial operations at two 50 MW/100 MWh BESS facilities in Cathkin and Broxburn, Scotland, adding a combined 100 MW/200 MWh of battery storage capacity to the UK electricity system. The two-hour duration assets are participating in wholesale electricity and balancing markets using ENGIE’s AI-based ORUS optimisation platform to support grid flexibility and renewable energy integration. ENGIE stated the projects were delivered through its integrated development, construction, operations and energy management model, strengthening its UK battery storage portfolio.
